USA warships insult region, Bolivia
The Bolivian government condemned Friday the US announcement that warships will set sail on Latin American and Caribbean waters as of July 1 and termed it an insult to regional sovereignty.
According to Deputy Social Defense Minister Felipe Caceres, the aim is not to foster confidence among nations through security efforts, as US Navy operations chief Gary Roughead stated.
In his criterion, the Washington interference must be denounced at the Organization of American States and the International Federation of Human Rights, underway in Paris, as well as the United Nations.
Caceres questioned the US conception of the fight against drug trafficking from a militarist view.In opinion of the official, the reactivation of the 4th Fleet may provoke chaos, disorder and violence, and divide nations.
Caceres proposed that the Pentagon announcement be analyzed to avoid violence through repression, and seek progress and development. The 4th Fleet emerged in 1943 during World War II, with the aim of protecting navigation and fighting Nazi submarines. It was deactivated in 1950, after being considered unnecessary by the nation's military sector.
