A new shootout lasting several hours was reported between Mexican armed forces and a group of drug traffickers in the state of Coahuila.
Three traffickers were killed, two wounded and five were arrested when the military attempted to search a house defended by Los Zetas, the military arm of the Gulf Cartel.
A great deal of firepower and many vehicles were confiscated from what is considered one of the best armed gangs in the country.
The murder of four people in the state of Chihuahua and two in Mexico State brought the number of deaths by alleged drug traffickers this month to 48.
Meanwhile a bomb threat caused evacuation of the North newspaper's installations in Juarez. North executives had previously been threatened by the La Federacion, an organization dedicated to hallucinogen traffic.
