Cuba asserted on Thursday that the struggle for Latin American unity and against US hostility is among priorities of the Island's foreign policy.
Head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Fernando Remirez, said that campaigning for the release of the five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters held in US prisons will also be among top priorities.
Speaking at the plenary of the 6th Congress University 2008, running until tomorrow, Remirez requested international support to get Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez released.
He highlighted the interest of the Caribbean nation for strengthening regional pro-integration mechanisms, including the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas, which has been joined by Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
Cuba maintains diplomatic relations with 181 states and its great prestige allows it to be a member of the Council on Human Rights and lead the Non-Aligned Movement since September 2006, he noted.
