Cuba and Guatemala foster links
Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez highlighted here the good state of relations between Cuba and Guatemala, while regarded future bilateral links as promising.
Rodriguez spoke with Prensa Latina shortly before winding up an official visit to Guatemala, where attended the opening ceremony of the third ophthalmologic center equipped by Cuba."We have had a full agenda reflecting the satisfactory relations and promising perspectives between the two countries," said the official.
Rodriguez met with President Alvaro Uribe Colom, vice president Rafael Espada, Foreign Minister Haroldo Rodas and Health Minister Eusebio del Cid, among other government officials.
He also presided over, along with Colom, the opening of the ophthalmologic hospital Carlos J. Finlay in the western department of San Marcos.Another two eye hospital staffed with Cuban doctors are already working in Guatemala.
In his speech of gratitude and solidarity, President Colom said that cooperation between Cuba and Guatemala also include sports, and education, with the implementation of the "Yo si puedo" (Yes I Can) program.
