Bolivia: no border conflict with Paraguay
Bolivian Minister of Defense Walker San Miguel said on Tuesday that reports of an alleged border conflict with Paraguay aim "to harm our relations."
According to several publications, the visit of the minister of Bolivia responds to an allegation of removal of the border line mark in the Chovoreca point, which is the limit of Bolivian Santa Cruz department with Paraguay, according to ABC on-line edition.
San Miguel stressed that this allegation was not made by Bolivia or the government of Evo Morales. It is an anonymous remark, which is not up to him, but to the Foreign Ministry to discuss. The Bolivian minister explained that the meeting with his Paraguayan peer Nelson Mora had been scheduled since last year.
Meanwhile, Mora said "the limits are full and firm, and not objected by any of the parties."He added that the visit of Walker San Miguel was scheduled a long time ago, on the sidelines of meetings 2+2 "aimed for stepped up control in the border."
The visitor is expected to sign an agreement on border military cooperation calling for troops from both countries to move in the common border to fight illegal activity.
He is also expected to sign a cooperation agreement for natural disasters to implement measures to confront the floods that have been affecting eastern Bolivia for several months.
