Paraguayan Opp Candidate: No FTA with US
Fernando Lugo, presidential candidate for Paraguayan opposition Alianza Patriotica para el Cambio showed himself against a Free Trade Agreement with the US in case he wins the elections.
"I would rather try to keep deepening regional integration through adhesion and work with the South Common Market (MERCOSUR)," said Lugo in an interview to Paraguayan newspaper ABC Color Monday.
Lugo also reasserted his support to those who fight for a piece of land in his country, and stated he would foster an agrarian reform if he is elected President."Every Paraguayan citizen has the right to be settled on his own land," he said.
On the proposal of renegotiation of the agreements of the binational hydroelectric plants of Itaipu and Yacyreta, Lugo advocated for a fairer price for energy for Paraguay, by means of strengthening relations with Argentina and Brazil.
Lugo also pointed out that he will call for a national reconciliation table if he becomes President on April 20.Our purpose is to rule the country with the participation of all the elements of the society, he concluded.
