Morales calls truce, focuses on floods

Bolivian President Evo Morales will bring forward a 60-day truce Monday so that the nation focuses attention on the people affected by intense rains.

La Paz Mayor Juan Del Granado suggested the initiative upon receiving 400,000 dollars in aid from the Andean Development Corporation (CAF).

ó It is an excellent proposal: life is first, above any political situation, ó Evo affirmed, and asked opposition authorities to join the call.

According to Granado, a break in conflict is imperative, as the people need attention to cope with the situation, more than political agreements or revocation referendums.

The Bolivian political panorama worsened last week, when the mayors of Santa Cruz, Beni, Pando, Chuquisaca, Tarija, and Cochabamba threatened to hold a strike if certain demands are not met before Wednesday.
