Peruvian Union to enter politics


The Peruvian Workers General Confederation (CGTP) ratified Sunday its decision to form a political and social bloc for the next presidential elections in Peru.Union leader Mario Huaman denied, however, that the CGTP is to become a political party, as sources from the government had claimed.

Huaman´s call to form a political bloc was made during May Day celebration in Lima.He called all political, social and progressive forces to join in a political alternative aimed at taking power power and making the changes Peru needs.

Huaman said that Peruvian President Alan Garcia's Saturday claim that the CGTP was becoming a political party was groundless.He added that CGTP would keep on working for the rights of the working people.The CGTP leader also confirmed calls for a national strike to protest hiking prices.
