Caribbean for improving airport experience

Participants in a Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry breakfast seminar spoke up for improving the Caribbean airport experience as an important step in tourism development plans.

St. Lucia's Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Senator Allen Chastanet said the "airport experience" was one of the areas the region was failing in its tourism sector, reported the Barbados Advocate newspaper.

People who have been in hotels throughout the Caribbean, where they are getting blended drinks and having fun and there are world class menus and everything else, see how that experience is lost at the airport, added Chastanet.

St. Lucia´s minister of Tourism was part of a panel which discussed the topic "Regional Air Travel: A Deterrent to Business - How Can We Fix It" during the event at the Savannah Hotel.

“Tourism is an area where we compete against the world. We really have a natural advantage that we started from, and we have done nothing to enhance that advantage," he stated.

"This should be the premier tourism destination in the world, people should be coming here and begging for our expertise in terms of how to run businesses, but they are not. I really hope the region can wake up to that fact" the Minister added.
