Chile suspends Education Minister

Yasna Provoste, Chilean Education Minister, was suspended from her post Thursday, when a constitutional accusation against her was approved 59 votes against 55 with 2 abstentions at the Deputy Chamber.

Provoste was questioned and constitutionally accused by rightwing deputies who pointed at her as the responsible for possible irregularities in her career, which were rejected by the government.

Followers of the Chilean Education Minister, who were at the special session in the Chilean Congress Thursday at Valparaiso, threw some coins to rightwing and independent deputies, while governmental deputies expressed their solidarity. The two abstentions corresponded to governmental deputies.

The legislative step should go to the Senate in the next days for analysis. If it is approved, Prevoste would have to leave the post, without a chance to hold any public post for five years.
